Why do we
need Initiative?

"There is nothing in all the world greater than freedom.
It is worth paying for; it is worth losing a job for; it is worth going to jail for.
I would rather be a free pauper than a rich slave.
I would rather die in abject poverty with my convictions
than live in inordinate riches with the lack of self respect."

Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Initiative is needed to:

  • reverse the concentration of government power
--- which accumulates naturally --- and relentlessly.
  • neutralize the power of special interests.
  • increase public understanding of issues.
  • stimulate public involvement in the political process
    and improve voter turnout.
  • make government more responsive.

Who is it that wants the initiative?

More Reasons Why we need the Initiative

"Men by their makeup are naturally divided into two camps:
those who fear and distrust the people and
wish to draw all powers from them into the hands of higher classes;

and those who identify themselves with the people,
have confidence in them, cherish and consider them the safest and most honest,
if not always the wisest repository of the public interest.

These two camps exist in every country,
and wherever men are free to think, speak, and write,
they will identify themselves."

Thomas Jefferson

"There are those occasions under our form of government when the interests of the represented
and the interests of the representatives are at odds.
I & R are the means by which the represented assure that their interests ultimately prevail."
